Banshee is from the Giant Sized X-Men boxed set. I removed his "wings", painted him black and glued ribbons to his arms. Simple custom and another common recipe.

Sunfire uses a Street Fighter Dhalsim as his base, his face and feet were sanded down. The headpiece is from a Human Torch Minimate, the rest is paint. The Age of Apocalypse is one of my top five favorite X-Men storylines. It was so clean and complete, unfortunately Marvel tried to capitalize on the success of the story by integrating elements of it in to the current for the time continuity and it didn't work. I used a few of the common recipes used to make a couple of customs of some of the missing X-Men. Storm uses a Robot Fighters Jean Grey head, with a Lady Deathstrike torso & sash and a Water Wars Storm arms and lower body. She's glued so she doesn't move but she is pretty accurate to the comic. I'd love to round out the teams in either the Toy Biz scale or the Minimates scale since they managed to make Mr Sinister which was canceled in this scale by Toy Biz. A Custom A Day.... 365 days of custom figures Day 291 - Jacketless Jim Lee Rogue Minimate by 4:F10/19/2015 I loved the different looks that Jim Lee gave Rogue in the first couple of issues of the X-Men book in the 90's. She was rarely depicted without her bomber jacket but it was cool when she was. I'd like to have her in a Marvel Legends scale figure this way but this quick custom cost nothing to render since I had all of the parts so this will have to do for now. She's simply a mix of both Rogue Minimates. A Custom A Day.... 365 days of custom figures Day 290 - Marvel Legends Inferno Baby Nathan by 4:F10/19/2015 I had some extra apoxie sculpt that was mixed so instead of letting it go to waste I made a Baby Nathan for the Goblin Queen to hold. He looks like a baby Jason Vorhees or Mr Bill from Saturday Night Live in the face. He's terrible but he's just an accessory, an important and necessary one but still just an accessory. MunsterMash Customs is a customizer that I met pretty recently on Instagram. I love his females. Their hair sculpts have so much motion. I wanted one of his pieces to feature as part of this project. Most of his work has been more modern age takes on Marvel ladies so I reached out to him to see if he'd do a classic version of either Jean Grey or Kitty Pryde for me. He opted for Jean since he had one in progress. She's been rendered in this costume quite a bit by many customizers but I really like this rendition because of the mask and the flow of her hair around it. The sculpt work is too notch. The skirt looks great too. This is the perfect Marvel Girl for my growing 70's X-Men roster and I'm excited to add one of MunsterMash's pieces to my collection. You can't have Lockjaw without Crystal. The last two members of the Inhumans. I'm certain we'll see them both in the Marvel Legends line when the movie comes out but Toy Biz skipped them and Karnak in the 5 inch line. She uses the standard Mystique/Jean Grey body with hair from a movie figure Storm. Lockjaw was a very common recipe back in the late 90's. He uses a Mr. Beefy from the McFarlane Little Nicky toyline. The problem with Beefy is that he was sculpted with his leg raised as though he was peeing. I cracked it off, repositioned it and sculpted around it. His rocket firing penis is still in tact, it just doesn't fire anymore. His battery has since died so he no longer talks. The rest is paint and a little plastic scrap that I had in my parts bin for his antenna. A Custom A Day.... 365 days of custom figures Day 286 - The New Mutants Karma effect by 4:F10/14/2015 Karma's effect is simple, black marker on pink paper, then cut. Helps complete her look. Works well with my 5 inch version as well. The original 3 3/4 inch Baroness was always too expensive so when Toys R Us released a repaint called Chameleon in a three pack back in the early 00's I picked her up and changed her red bits to grey to closer match the Baroness' look from the cartoon. An easy one! |
A Custom A Day....
Since
I began toy collecting as a hobby back in 1990 I have always had a
need for custom figures. Toy companies begin action figure lines, begin
to release individual characters to create teams and, more often than
not leave them incomplete. Many collectors find that custom figures
pollute their collection's authenticity by not being mass produced
creations from the toy companies that created the preexisting toy lines.
I disagree. I feel a quality custom action figure enhances a
collection and help create a complete picture. Archives
