A Custom A Day.... 365 days of custom figures Day 232 - Toy Biz 5 inch Crimson Dawn Psylocke by 4:F8/20/2015 This version of Psylocke was never released to look like the prototype shown on the packaging for the Light Up series. She was the same figure, but was released with an angry expression and flowing hair. This, the second release used the hairstyle and body from the prototype figure, but gave her another angry look in addition to her Crimson Dawn mark. She was painted to have lavender hair instead of purple and a black costume. Toy Biz made an X-Force Psylocke before she even existed. I repainted her to fit in with the Jim Lee team.

A Custom A Day.... 365 days of custom figures Day 231 - Fantastic Four She Hulk Minimate by 4:F8/19/2015 She Hulk is a sloppy bit of short cuts. Her legs and forearms have painted details on them from the original figure. I didn't have legs or arms that matched her skin tone and I didn't want to paint them since I change her back and forth from time to time. Polaris is a quick custom. She required no paint just a Frankensteining of parts. It's why love Minimates so much. She Hulk's hair, Jim Lee Jean Grey's head, the generic Storm/Psylocke body from wave 60, Jim Lee Cyclops, harness and flesh colored arms from the parts bin. A Custom A Day.... 365 days of custom figures Day 229 - Uncanny X-Men Piotr Rasputin Minimate by 4:F8/17/2015 Peter was a quick custom, swapped out his metal frame for Longshot's head, Namor's hair, chestblock and arms, Terrax's gauntlets and Spidey's legs with the original Collosus's costume. I plan to have this look done in Marvel Legends scale but since this was easy, here he is. Today is Madonna's birthday so I'm sharing my haphazard attempt at a Dress You Up Minimate from the Virgin Tour. If the Desperately Seeking Susan Minimate set weren't so expensive, I'd use a Madonna head and hair but at $100, that'll have to wait. This works for now. A Custom A Day.... 365 days of custom figures Day 227 - Scooby Doo That's Snow Ghost Freddy by 4:F8/15/2015 A Custom A Day.... 365 days of custom figures Day 226 - Scooby Doo That's Snow Ghost Daphne by 4:F8/14/2015 Daphne was the hardest member of the gang to render. I tend to sculpt bigger than necessary so her collar and zipper are bigger than necessary. Less is more, I'll learn eventually. A Custom A Day.... 365 days of custom figures Day 225 - Scooby Doo That's Snow Ghost Velma by 4:F8/13/2015 Velma was as easy as Fred. Her costume is the same as her regular outfit, with the exception of her hat and scarf. Her preexisting turtle neck was already half of the scarf so it was easy. She was the first one I made. A Custom A Day.... 365 days of custom figures Day 224 - Scooby Doo That's Snow Ghost Shaggy by 4:F8/13/2015 Once I had a set of the Scooby gang in several different scales I wanted them rendered in their snow gear from my favorite Scooby Doo, Where Are You?, That's Snow Ghost. Luckily their outfits were just variations of their everyday clothes. I used a spare set of Bend-Em's that I had lying around. Freddy & Velma were the easiest. A Custom A Day.... 365 days of custom figures Day 223 - 13 Ghosts of Scooby Doo Shaggy by 4:F8/12/2015 Having an extra Shaggy figure laying around, I decided to paint him in his 13 Ghosts of Scooby Doo outfit. They try to refresh him and Daphne by "modernizing" their outfits. Daphne would take far more sculpting than I'm capable of so its just Shaggy for now. |
A Custom A Day....
Since
I began toy collecting as a hobby back in 1990 I have always had a
need for custom figures. Toy companies begin action figure lines, begin
to release individual characters to create teams and, more often than
not leave them incomplete. Many collectors find that custom figures
pollute their collection's authenticity by not being mass produced
creations from the toy companies that created the preexisting toy lines.
I disagree. I feel a quality custom action figure enhances a
collection and help create a complete picture. Archives
