A Custom A Day.... 365 days of custom figures Day 140 - Toy Biz 5 inch The New Mutants Psyche by 4:F5/21/2015 Dani Moonstar is the second of my custom New Mutants. She is made using primarily a Toy Biz Street Fighter Cammy figure. I removed her arms and replaced them with Magik's arms. Her belt is from a Black Widow. Although I'm terrible with sculpting I may try to give her hair. Right now her hair is just painted on a sanded head to remove her hat. Hot on the heels of the Jem and the Holograms trailer, The New Mutants movie was confirmed by Fox. So for the next several days we'll be looking at my Toy Biz 5 inch scale New Mutants customs. Sam Guthrie is up first as Cannonball. I think he uses a Captain America body but I do not remember. It's far too bulky to represent Cannonball's frame during this time period but it was a plain body with boot cuffs so I used it. The head is from a Backstreet Boys Burger King Kids Meal toy, the belt is from Wolfsbane. His blast effect is a repainted HydroMan spout. The mushroomy part of the blast should be reversed and at his waist but it's what was available and still looks fine when he's displayed with it. Riot. The only unfinished custom that I will be sharing as part of this project. I had this grand idea that I was going to learn how to root doll hair. I had a spare Rio doll laying around and knew that any Riot custom would use him as a base so when I ordered Rapture From Jemgirl, I requested that she also make me a Riot costume. I was going to handle the hair myself. This skill was going to put me on track to make custom dolls of my own for my collection and possibly for sale. Then I went to the wig shop. And another. And another. I figured the hair would be easy to find. Silly me. I STILL haven't come across suitable hair to finish the project so Riot sits on my self looking crazy. Eventually we'll get there. I should mention that the quality presented by Jemgirl is superb. She included microphones and guitars with the order. Great bonus A Custom A Day.... 365 days of custom figures Day 137 - Jem The Stingers Rapture by Jemgirl5/17/2015 Once I had Minx I knew I needed Jemgirl versions of the rest of The Stingers so I contacted her to make Rapture and Riot. Rapture is just as perfect and consistent with the rest. Riot is another story for tomorrow. Minx is the first custom that I purchased from Jemgirl via eBay. I was familiar with her beautiful work but never actually owned one of her pieces. This doll was listed with a very reasonable Buy It Now price so I snatched it up. I'd love to be able one day to have her dolls complete my Jem collection. They tie in perfectly with the Hasbro line. Lin-Z is one of several Jem custom dolls that I purchased from Jemgirl out of Australia. She dies perfect renditions that tie in flawlessly with the vintage Jem line. I'm not a fan of the new line of Jem dolls. The Misfits & The Stingers look great but Jem, The Holograms and their friends all look too bitchy for my taste. The vintage line gave them a softer more toyetic look. I like that Jemgirl's customs compliment that so well. What better time to share the few Jem customs that I own than right after the release of that disasterous trailer for a film that is sure to kill the property. Eric was an eBay purchase so the artist is unknown. I like the way he fits with the Misfits even if he does look a bit young. A Custom A Day.... 365 days of custom figures Day 133 - Spider-man & His Amazing Friends Video Man5/13/2015 Video Man is a printed screenshot. He appeared flat on the cartoon anyway. He's more of an accessory or backdrop than a figure but he displays nicely. A Custom A Day.... 365 days of custom figures Day 132 - Justice League Unlimited Felix Faust by 4:F5/12/2015 Felix is another kit purchased from Stew's Customs. Stew has since revised the head sculpt since this kit was first made available. His head wrap is a thick elastic band, painted & glued around be his head. The newer version comes with the head wrap sculpted on. He was a simple sand, glue and paint. He retains his shoulder articulation but not his neck. |
A Custom A Day....
Since
I began toy collecting as a hobby back in 1990 I have always had a
need for custom figures. Toy companies begin action figure lines, begin
to release individual characters to create teams and, more often than
not leave them incomplete. Many collectors find that custom figures
pollute their collection's authenticity by not being mass produced
creations from the toy companies that created the preexisting toy lines.
I disagree. I feel a quality custom action figure enhances a
collection and help create a complete picture. Archives
